presentation: Ictus takes Charleroi Danses and Music Fund to South Africa and Mozambique

ICTUS with CHARLEROI DANSES and MUSIC FUND in SOUTH AFRICA and MOZAMBIQUE

Ictus, the internationally touring soloist ensemble for contemporary music, has started to establish contacts with artists in South Africa and Mozambique since August 2005 and is planning to develop this further the coming years. In 2006, we are sending our soloists to work with musicians for contemporary music workshops at universities and collaborate with dancers from Soweto, KwaMashu and Maputo.

After a first ten day workshop period in August 2005, Ictus is now back in South Africa and Mozambique this year, in April (from 3 -> 13.4.06) and a second time in August-September (19.8 -> 3.9.06).

The artistic crew developing this programme in the 3 different cities in April, includes the following artists: Georges-Elie Octors and Miquel Bernat (soloists of the music ensemble Ictus, percussionists, Belgium),
George Khumalo (choreographer and dancer from danceproject Nyakaza, Soweto), Pierre Droulers (choreographer, Charleroi Danses, Belgium), plus Tom Bruwier (production manager and light designer, Ictus) and myself.

In the context of this project, we asked two experts of the organisation Music Fund - an intiative of Ictus and the ngo Oxfam Solidarity (Belgium) - to propose introductory workshops around repairing and tuning of music instruments (Joris Buysse, wind instruments, and Pol De Winter, pianos), something which is started at the occasion of our April workvisit.
